Footy Round-Up [episode 22]

Footy Round-Up is a weekly, 30-minute radio show — hosted by Rob Cerjanec and Matt Tidcombe — that discusses all facets of world soccer.

We discuss the latest news in the top leagues in Europe, including the Premiership, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga. In addition, we will talk about TFC and MLS.

Episode breakdown:

Rob Cerjanec and Matt Tidcombe are back with a new episode of Footy Round-Up after a three-month hiatus! The show is now split into two segments, keeping with the soccer tradition of a first half and second half.

Segment 1: Rob and Matt discuss Toronto FC’s busy offseason that has seen a number of high profile players join the club such as Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, Damien Perquis, Robbie Findley and Benoit Cheyrou. We talk about some of their departures, including Jermain Defoe, while discussing if this is the best team TFC have ever had. We also chat about Vancouver and Montreal’s offseason while checking in with some of the big transfers that took place during January.

Segment 2: Rob and Matt pick up things across in Europe as we whip through the big four leagues. We start with the EPL where Man City dropped points at home as Chelsea won to extend their lead in the title race. We hop over to La Liga where Atletico Madrid hammered rivals Real 4-0 while Barcelona cruised to a 5-2 win. In Germany, Dortmund are no longer bottom while Bayern Munich continue to extend their lead atop the table. Finally, in Italy, Juventus, Roma and Napoli all win as the Serie A title takes shape.

Wrap up: Rob and Matt finish with some closing thoughts of the week that was and plug that we will have a show next week too.
