Friday, April 27: 03:30 PM - 05:00 PM, Innis Town Hall

As a jumping-off point, this panel considers The Seven Minute Ideal: the role, impact and challenges of funding and creating short-form, cross-media documentary content. For decades, the ideal length of for doc was either a 90 minute feature or a TV hour. Filmmakers have always resisted or adapted to the formatting needs of distribution outlets. In this new era, everything is subject to change. DocAgora proposes that the ideal length or golden mean for any digital documentary or interactive experience may well be 7 minutes.

What effect will this have on newform documentary? What business models are waiting?

Originally Held: Friday, April 27: 01:50 PM - 03:00 PM, Innis Town Hall

This modified Oxford-style debate considers the role of authorship. One side of Generation D (as in Digital), user-generated doc-makers take on Doc-auteurs, linear trad-school broadcasters and point-of-view purists. The Proposition: Can you still be a doc-auteur filmmaker in this brave, new digital world? Is auteur documentary a dead duck in the digital water?
