The first Journal show of Spring 2022 showcases a wide variety of performance arts and culture in Toronto. Our hosts Linda Kovac and Hareesh Pragalathan flawlessly execute the task of navigating the viewers through a series of independent short documentary films.
We begin with “Drop Drag Gorgeous”, a short doc that highlights the introspective of a free-spirited individual, who explores sexual diversity as an art form. Our guest Lilly demonstrates how the human body can be a blank canvas used to emulate a wide spectrum of alter egos.
We then highlight Egglinton Grill, a once failing video rental business that has managed to survive throughout the past 30 years. The store has made several adaptations to remain current with evolving times and has been able to thrive despite facing many challenges.
We then hit the local night scene and indulge in some stand-up comedy to understand the art form behind crafting original content with Jay Rainville.
We also get introduced to New York Raja, a veteran keyboardist and music instructor, who composes music for Indian cultural films.
We take a break from performance arts to enjoy architectural arts on a Walk Together tour of Bremner Boulevard.
Finally, our host Hareesh Pragalathan treats the audience to a LIVE performance to wrap the show.

The Journal is a show that airs annually, where broadcasting students from generation to generation are able to showcase a compilation of their best documentary films. With each year brings a new set of talented students, who share the same creative desire to become masters in the art of filmmaking.
The Journal is 30 minutes of live television, written, produced and performed solely by students in their fourth semester of Centennial College’s Broadcasting program which covers Film, Television, Radio & Digital Media. Students are placed in a real TV studio, equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and high-performance lighting. The show occurs in real time, as students intensely prepare for the big day to simulate Live Television and experience troubleshooting during high-pressure situations.
